Why I Created Honest Skin and Beauty: My Story

Skincare has always been a part of my life—it’s something I’ve been passionate about since I was a little girl. I still remember my Nanna, a proud Portuguese woman with the most radiant skin you could imagine. She had that timeless beauty where you could never quite guess her age. No matter what she was going through, she always took pride in her appearance. She taught me early on that caring for your skin is not just about beauty—it's about self-respect and self-love. I used to watch her dye her hair regularly just so no one would see her greys, and even as a child, I admired this about her.

Growing up, I was blessed to not have much technology around me. I was one of those kids always running around outside, soaking up the sun. Sunscreen, aloe vera gel, and moisturisers were always part of our daily routine. Taking care of our skin wasn’t something we thought twice about—it was second nature. Looking back, I realise how deeply ingrained those habits became in me, and how much they shaped my views on health and beauty.

As I got older, my relationship with my appearance changed. Like many women, I’ve struggled with confidence. I was (and often still am) the person who prefers the quiet corner in a restaurant—the one who enjoys the moment but doesn’t want to be the centre of attention. For years, I wouldn’t leave the house without makeup. My “face” was always on, because I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin.

That’s where the idea for Honest Skin and Beauty was born. I wanted to create something that would help me feel confident, naturally—and eventually help other women feel the same. This brand started as something very personal: a journey to fall in love with my own skin. Today, I’m proud to say I feel good leaving the house with just my skincare on (okay, and maybe a little mascara!). It’s been a huge shift, and one that I know so many others can relate to.

Honest Skin and Beauty is truly an extension of who I am. It reflects everything I stand for: honesty, purity, natural ingredients, and raw beauty—inside and out. My mission is to share my passion for healthy, nourishing skincare with other women, and help them feel empowered and beautiful in their most natural state.

Because when you feel confident in your own skin, everything else changes.
